Geographic names data

GEONOMA is the authoritative register of all official WA names assigned under the Land Administration Act 1997 and previous Acts. It also includes other unofficial names that have been recorded where they are in common use to support location finding. Historic and superseded names are also retained

What is included?

Landgate administers the naming of geographic features under delegation from the Minister for Lands for features such as:

  • townsites 
  • Localities (suburbs)
  • roads and bridges
  • geographical features (e.g. hills, rivers and lakes).

Names data gives you: 

  • name of feature 
  • unique ID number 
  • feature class and status 
  • LGA name and number 
  • locality 
  • map number 
  • derivation of name.

Coverage

Names data is available for the whole of Western Australia, including Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island.
