A stable start to the new year

Landgate's January 2013 Business Activity Profile, released today, shows a stable start to the new year for property document lodgement in Western Australia.

Landgate Chief Executive Mike Bradford said while total document lodgement figures had decreased by 22.3 per cent from December, this was an expected seasonal adjustment.

"December is traditionally a higher performing month than January," said Mr Bradford.

"A better indication can be seen by comparing January 2013 to the same month last year, which shows a 1.8 per cent decrease in activity," he said.

"We also continued to see stability with January's lodgement activity only 2.9 per cent lower than the five year average for the month."

Of the documents lodged in January 2013, transfers of land notably increased by 12.7 per cent compared to January 2012, equating to an additional 672 documents being lodged for the month.

Landgate's Business Activity Profile covers all property related documents lodged within Landgate and is a barometer of the state of the property market in Western Australia.

The January 2013 Business Activity Profile is available on Landgate's website. It provides the daily average of all documents lodged, with sections detailing transfers, mortgages, caveats, searches and other categories of property related documents.
