The Chief Scientist of WA Professor Peter Klinken today visited Landgate's Midland offices to learn more about our Innovation Program and how we are a world leader in the management and use of location information and technology.
Landgate has been the leader in innovation across the WA public sector.
Landgate's General Manager Business Development Jodi Cant spoke about the agency's Innovation Program whilst Damian Shepherd, Director of WALIS and LIS, shared the potential of open data and outreach programs such as HackED
Professor Klinken said he was impressed by Landgate's innovative spirit and the products the agency had produced.
"I love the culture of innovation and creativity, I think it's crucial for the future of the state," Professor Klinken said.
"We should be world leaders in this space and Landgate is doing a great job in being on the front foot and taking us in that direction."
During his visit Professor Klinken was also briefed about Landgate's business and the services it provides to the individual, government and the wider community. He was given an overview of survey points, mapping, aerial imagery, Certificate of Title, valuation data, electronic conveyancing and earthmine. He was also presented with a Property Interest Report on his own property to demonstrate the power of shared land data.
The Chief Scientist's visit was timely with the State Government recently launching its Open Data Policy which was borne out of the success of GovHack and WA's long standing arrangements for location-based information management.
Professor Klinken was interested in learning more about Landgate after giving a presentation to our people in March as part of Innovation Month.
