Record highs for end of year property figures

Landgate's June 2013 Business Activity Profile (BAP), released today, reports the highest recorded total document lodgement figures since June 2009.

Landgate Acting Chief Executive Ian Hyde said the figures continue to support the improving trend in property activity seen throughout the 2012/13 financial year.

"A total of 35,071 documents were lodged in June 2013, an increase of 26.6 per cent compared to the same month last year," said Mr Hyde.

"On the last day of the 2012/13 financial year, 4,451 documents were lodged which is our highest June intake since 2008 and more than twice the volume received on the last day of June 2012," said Mr Hyde.

A total of 346,610 documents were lodged in 2012/13, an increase of 13.1 per cent compared to the previous 2011/12 financial year. Additionally, more than 100,000 documents were lodged in the 2012/13 final quarter – the highest figure for a last quarter since 2006/07.

Transfers and mortgages lodged in June 2013 increased by 32.9 per cent and 39.3 per cent respectively compared to June 2012.

"Landgate's BAP figures throughout 2012/13 have shown a marked improvement in property activity, which supports reports made by the property industry that there is renewed confidence in the market," said Mr Hyde.

The BAP covers all property related documents lodged within Landgate and is a barometer of the state of the property market in Western Australia.

The June 2013 BAP is available on Landgate's website. It provides the daily average of all documents lodged, with sections detailing transfers, mortgages, caveats, searches and other categories of property related documents.
