Landgate launches awareness campaign

Landgate introduced the new 'Registrar and Commissioner of Titles Joint Practice: Verification of Identity' on 1 July 2012. Full compliance is expected on documents lodged on and after 2 January 2013.

To support the implementation of the Practice, Landgate has launched an awareness campaign.

The campaign commenced on Monday 17 December 2012 and continues through to early April 2013. It includes print, radio and online advertising.

The campaign informs the public that a higher standard of verification of identity is required when transacting in land in WA such as when selling or mortgaging property. It also outlines that the standard is based on a requirement to provide current and original identity documents, which should be presented at a face-to-face meeting.

Landgate has also mailed the Verification of Identity brochure to real estate agents, settlement agents and peak bodies in the conveyancing industry.

For further information about the Practice, to download the brochure or place an order for more copies, visit the Verification of Identity webpage.

The full version of the Practice is located at Chapter 14 in the Land Titles Registration Practice Manual.
