Landgate celebrates International Women’s Day

The agency recently hosted its 16th International Women's Day breakfast incorporating the theme, The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum.

Landgate Chief Executive Mike Bradford said the annual breakfast paid tribute to successful and inspirational West Australian women.

In the spotlight for 2013 was Fiona Crowe, Head of St Catherine's College at the University of Western Australia. A recipient of the prestigious 40Under40 Business Award in 2010, Ms Crowe was able to share some of her experiences with breakfast guests.

Mr Bradford said Ms Crowe had created a place in the higher education sector where women from rural and metropolitan Western Australia and throughout the world had come to achieve distinction.

"Landgate has been celebrating International Women's Day for more than a decade now and it continues to be an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution women make to the workforce and community," he said.

Each year, money contributed at the breakfast event by attendees is donated to a charity of Landgate's choice. This year, St Bartholomew's House was the recipient.

"We chose to support St Bartholomew's House, a charity that provides support and accommodation to people who are homeless and helps them get their lives back on track," Mr Bradford said.

"This decision came as a result of my participation in the St Vincent de Paul's CEO Sleepout last year, which gave me an insight into what people who are homeless face daily. It reinforced in my mind the importance of work carried out by charities such as St Bartholomew's House", he said.

"St Bartholomew's House recently offered its services to women after observing an emerging trend of women over the age of 55 needing assistance."Mr Bradford presented a $1,000 cheque from Landgate to representatives from St Bartholomew's House and an additional $669 was also contributed by breakfast attendees.

St Bartholomew's House welcomes donations of dry packaged food and toiletries, and financial contributions can be made online at http://stbarts.org.au/
