Landgate’s Enabling Local Government workshop huge success

More than half of Perth's urban local governments turned out to a free workshop Enabling Local Government hosted in Midland by Landgate on Thursday August 26.

The workshop was at full capacity with 80 participants from 23 local councils along with two representatives from State Government departments attending.

Landgate Chief Executive Mike Bradford said the workshop was an excellent opportunity to showcase the new technology and time saving products Landgate has to offer.

"We believe that by knowing what Landgate has to offer and how to use its services and products to their full potential, local governments will be able to reduce their workloads and improve their business processes,'' Mr Bradford said.

"This in turn should help their customers with a more streamlined service.''

He said the Local Government Extraction Tool (LGET) which was developed by Landgate in partnership with Digital Mapping Services (DMS) and funded from the Landgate Innovation Program was proving popular with councils. The LGET updates the mapping system automatically overnight saving considerable time and cost.

Landgate sales and marketing account manager Paul Jupp organised the event and said he was extremely happy with the way it had gone and the interest shown by the councils.

"We have been asked to go into more depth with our products and we will provide more information on an individual basis to councils.

"Because the workshop was so successful and because we only catered to around half the urban councils in Perth, we are considering holding further workshops.''

Mr Jupp said there was particular interest shown in a new service from Landgate, a data comparison service, which allows the comparison of data from local Governments with updated Landgate information to ensure all the data bases are correct.
