Western Australian place names reflect the state’s diverse history and culture. The Geographic Names Committee, supported by Landgate, administers the naming of towns, suburbs and roads, plus geographical features such as hills, rivers, and lakes.
Place name information is held within the GEONOMA data set, which is updated on a daily basis. Covering the entire state, the data set includes information on the position, origin, meaning and classification of a name. The information can be provided either in hard copy or digital, report or plot form, using roads, topographical features or administrative boundaries as selection criteria.
Names, places and graphic locations are included for the following: towns and localities, water features and points, geographic and coastal features and buildings.
