WAITTA Finalist
01/19/2010
Firewatch Indonesia (Indofire) is a finalist in the 19th Western Australian Information Technology & Telecommunications Awards (WAITTA).
Landgate International Director Arnold Wong said that Indofire has been selected as one of the finalists in the Exporter category.
“This award recognises the contribution of a WA organisation to the profile of IT&T at an international level,” Mr Wong said.
“Indofire is an online tool based on the original Landgate program FireWatch which detects and monitors forest fires, peatland fires and smoke haze.
“It uses a state-of-the-art sensor that passes over Indonesia twice every day and night.
“The satellite data appears on the Indofire website within an hour, speeding up fire detection and allowing local fire brigades to respond more quickly.”
The WAITTA award recognises outstanding performance and contributions by members of the IT&T community in Western Australia.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to compete for such a prestigious award,” Mr Wong said.
The judging will be held in early February 2010.
