Medium-scale Topographic Database (GIS dataset)

The Medium-scale Topographic Database (TGDB) provides a whole of state view of the natural and man-made features. Typically features found on the 1:25000 to 1:100000 topographic maps include Relief, Transport, Hydrography and Cultural – man made features. It is a 2D dataset with height attribution on contour and spot elevation features. Over 13 million spatial topographic features are stored in the database. Important features of the database include persistent identifiers (a unique number that is preserved during the feature’s edit life), feature level metadata and the ability to provide incremental updates.

Large-scale Topographic Database (Computer-Aided-Drafting - CAD dataset)

The Large-scale topographic dataset is a 3D dataset that provides a detailed view of the urban areas of the state (predominately the Perth Metropolitan area and regional centres). The dataset includes both natural and man-made features, typically found on the 1:2000 topographic maps (i.e. Relief, Transport, Hydrography and Cultural – man made features). This dataset is in the process of being converted to a Geographical Information System (GIS) dataset.

Coverage
Topographic data is available for all of Western Australia.

Data fields
Attributes of the Topographic data include points, lines or polygons of

  • Cultural features - buildings, general facility (eg library), industrial (eg pipeline), mine, place (eg town), tower (eg communications tower)
  • Ground surface data – elevation (eg contours, spot heights), fuzzy land (eg gully, dune), morphology (eg embankment, crater)
  • Hydrography - coastal flat, framework (eg coastline, marine construction), fuzzy water (eg swamp, lagoon), inland flat, inland water
  • Transport – bridge, tunnel, general transport (eg cycleway, wharf), rail segment, road, transport facility (eg airport, bus stop)
