Toodyay Fire Scar Digital Photos
02/09/2010
The 2009/2010 State Land Information Capture Program marks the first year Landgate has captured its aerial imagery with a digital airborne camera.
This has resulted in an improved image quality for the customer as well as a faster turnaround time.
On January 12 2010, a few days after the devastating Toodyay bushfires, Landgate acquired very high resolution imagery (10cm) over the affected areas as well as the Toodyay townsite.
The attached series of photographs show the extent of the disaster. The new technology enables other government agencies such as FESA, to more accurately map what happened and where.
Previously, Landgate has captured images of various disasters around Western Australia, such as the Esperance floods in 2007, last year’s Kings Park Fire and the Tenterden fire of 2003.
These provide as not only a vivid reminder but also as a valuable spatial resource from which agencies can map and model disaster behaviours and hopefully minimise loss of life and property in future events.
The photos can be viewed here.
