Spatial science achievement reaches new height
11/11/2008
Landgate senior project manager Dan Sandison has raised the bar not only at Landgate but also within the state.
He is one of just two Western Australians to date to achieve the prestigious Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI) Professional Certification - Geographic Information Systems Professional Asia-Pacific (GISP-AP).
Mr Sandison is the first Landgate staff member to reach this significant milestone.
“I applied to show my support for an industry that I’m passionate about,” Mr Sandison said.
“This is the highest level of certification for Spatial Science, and it’s a pretty big achievement summing up my 16 years in the industry to date.”
Originally from the United States of America, Mr Sandison came to Australia on a study scholarship to complete post graduate studies at Curtin University.
“Spatial Sciences applies to almost everything, 80 per cent of all information has a spatial component,” he said. “Spatial Sciences is a progressive, boom industry and it is different from the norm.”
The Spatial Science Institute provides representation, support and a range of other services for the expanding community of spatial practitioners.
The Certification is a formal "portfolio-based" process by which individuals who have shown a certain level of expertise in the spatial professions are identified to the general public and other stakeholders.
There will be a ceremony shortly to celebrate Mr Sandison’s achievement.
