Located east of Perth, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is one of the most important mining areas in the world.  The two towns were located side by side until they were amalgamated as Kalgoorlie-Boulder in 1989.  With the initial discovery of gold in 1893, and the subsequent gold-rush, the town needed to supplement it’s water supply which was done in 1903 thanks to the engineering brilliance of C.Y. O’Connor.  The “Golden Mile” has an interesting history with many things to see and do, both in town, and in the surrounding area.
