Project Grids

Grid information provides a standard for the interchange of data within the engineering, surveying and project mapping industry. Within a project grid, the distance between two points on a plan will be the same as the ground distance to a defined tolerance of 20ppm. This makes the project grids ideal for engineering applications, facilitating the use of plane coordinate calculations for design and construction set out. These can be used for any standard within the Map Grid Australia (MGA) zone.

A free MS Excel Spreadsheet using Redfearn's formulae to convert between latitude & longitude and UTM coordinates and vice versa will allow for DIY conversions to any WA Project Grid and back again.

Create individual MS Excel spreadsheet for each step of your conversions.

Replace TM definition False easting(m), False northing(m), Central Scale factor(k), Zone width(degrees) and Longitude of the central meridian of zone 1(Decimal degrees) with project grid parameters.
