Minister welcomes Landgate

Landgate, the new Agency responsible for Western Australia’s land and property information, comes into action today (1st January).
Minister for Land Information, Michelle Roberts welcomed the new Western Australian Land Information Authority, known as Landgate. She said that the new statutory authority heralded a new era in the rapidly expanding business of land information.
Landgate’s transition from the Department of Land Information (DLI), establishes it as the State’s key source of land and property information.
The Agency will maintain the State’s official register of land ownership and surveying information, and also manage land and property valuations in Western Australia.
Mrs Roberts said that while the Agency had been granted commercial powers that would potentially enable it to become less reliant on Government funding, it would still maintain its obligations to the people and state of Western Australia.
“Landgate will now be able to move ahead to instigate the very best products and services available. The revenue it generates can be re-invested back into the Agency - supporting the development of new technology, initiatives and opportunities.”
"By creating Landgate the Government has recognised the importance of land information in our increasingly knowledge based economy," Mrs Roberts said.
“Extensive consultation with stakeholders, business, government, the public and DLI’s own staff have all helped pave the way for the new Agency.
“Quite literally Landgate’s goal is to deliver land information anywhere, anytime. Today marks the first official day towards reaching that goal."
