Landgate and ABS joint project
11/21/2008
Landgate and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) joined forces this week at the inaugural National Statistical Service (NatSats) conference in Melbourne (November 19-21).
Acting Chief Executive Mike Bradford addressed key-stakeholders from across government, business and academia on Landgate’s award-winning Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) Enabler.
Mr Bradford said the conference provided an excellent forum to showcase SLIP Enabler which is a flagship project for citizen-centric service delivery.
“In the first instance, the collaboration with ABS is to spatially enable census data,” Mr Bradford said.
“Initially, Landgate identified the need for more flexible access to ABS data for the Western Australian Government agenda.
“This has led to the collaboration which uses Landgate’s expertise in sharing spatial information with ABS’s expertise in statistics.
“A pilot program has proved very successful and we are continuing discussions with ABS.”
Mr Bradford said NatStats08 was about bringing together the key users and producers of official statistics in a major forum to discuss how the statistical information base for Australia could be improved.
“Most importantly, it was about having consistent, high quality, accurate information on the economy, society and the environment that is easily accessible at any time,” Mr Bradford said.
“As a world leading initiative in the spatial information environment, SLIP Enabler demonstrates the success of an integrated and collaborative approach to the way government spatial (land and property) information is used and shared.”
