Land Monitor

Land Monitor is a data system providing products for land management including salinity maps showing salinity change between 1987 and 2000 and areas at risk of developing high water tables; woody vegetation maps showing vegetation changes from 1988 and the extent of revegetation and vegetation loss; digital elevation models accurate enough to produce two metre contour data. Price varies with product, delivery mode and size.

Land Monitor provides maps of salt-affected land and areas of potentially high water tables in Western Australia’s south-west agricultural area.  Maps of vegetation cover can assist with monitoring the condition of remnant and revegetated areas.

Also available are salinity monitoring data, vegetation trends and digital elevation models capable of producing 2 metre contour data.  Subscribers can access woody vegetation maps showing changes over time including revegetation levels and vegetation loss.

Information from Land Monitor can be used to predict areas at risk from future salinisation and to monitor declines or improvements in land condition.  Once saline land has been identified, changes over time can be determined by comparing the sequence of satellite images – the only known accurate method of detecting past trends in large areas of salinised land.
