Fire Monitoring

Landgate provides a number of satellite services that assist emergency services and land management professionals with managing and tracking fires.

There are five products available;


FireWatch uses satellite imagery to:

  • track, manage and control fires, Australia wide
  • provide real time information to emergency services, farmers and land management professionals
  • show historic images of fire-scarred areas allow land managers to estimate the flammability of land cover and make informed decisions about controlled burnings.

FireWatch is available through Farm Channel in My Landgate. Access to the FireWatch is FREE. Please visit My Landgate.



This service assists organisations involved in tracking and fighting existing fires. Archived images are available to view online and download for free. These products can be overlaid with other land information such as cadastral or topographic data.

There are 3 different services:

1. A new map server based archive combining NOAA and MODIS fire hotspot fire hotspot information with other satellite and land based information.
2. A low level graphic and text based NOAA fire hotspot archive.
3. A low level graphic and text based MODIS fire hotspot archive.

This service offers daily fax or email updates on fire hotspot locations in Western Australia and is available by subscription only. Customers can specify their region of interest and are sent a twice daily update by fax or email showing the 1:250 000 map sheet for their area and the location of any fire hotspots.

The Curing Index is used to assess the curing levels of grasslands for fire control. The Curing Indexes are available from April to August/September for the Kimberley region and from October until FESA use ends for the South West region. Price varies with delivery mode and size.

Currency: Updated weekly during fire season
Format: Hard Copy and Digital Files (request your preferred file type)


Do you need access to Australia wide information on fire scar history? This service assists fire and emergency personnel as well as planning and environmental industries to gather information. This product can be overlaid with other land information such as cadastral or topographic data. Price varies with data, delivery mode and size.


You can view and download current and archived information.
