Topographic data is made up of two types of data; planimetric and relief.

Planimetric data shows cultural features (such as roads and buildings) and physical features including hydrography (such as streams, lakes and rivers).

Relief data shows the shape of the land using land surface contour lines and spot heights.

The Contours Online product only provides relief theme topographic data.

Contours Online provides relief theme topographic data comprising land surface contour lines and spot heights.

Contours for the Perth Metropolitan Area will be in 5m intervals only. In due course, Landgate aims to deliver larger scale contour maps online for the Perth Metropolitan area however these are not available at present. If you wish to order large scale contour maps please contact geodata@landgate.wa.gov.au or phone 08 9273 7045.

The contours data across the rest of Western Australia will be in 5m, 10m or 20m intervals depending on the desired location.

The Contours Online product attracts a service fee of $60 plus a charge per megabyte. Therefore the cost of each area will depend on the volume of data contained within it. The more information that is contained in the dataset, the greater the megabytes and the corresponding price.

Data that is less than 5MB in size will be delivered by email to your nominated email address within 24 hours.

If the volume of data is greater than 5MB, but less than 400MB, it will be delivered via a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) download. In this case you will be sent an email with a link to the FTP download, enabling you to click on the link to download and save the data. The link will be available for 7 days following the purchase of the product and you can download it at anytime within this period.

If the volume of data is more than 400MB it will be burnt to a DVD and posted to you within 7 days. Standard delivery costs will apply.

Your product will be available via the FTP link for 7 days. Users can download their ordered product as many times as they like within this timeframe. It is recommended that you download your product and save it to your hard-drive for future reference.

If you wish to search for contour data via address or suburb then you can do this through Map Viewer. The search result will allow you to order Contours Online for the Local Government relevant to your search address.

Please refer to the metadata accompanying your order for the date it was captured.

You can choose to have the data delivered as either a Shape File or CAD Design File (DGN v7 3D).

You will also be given the option to choose which projection format you’d prefer – either Map Grid of Australia (MGA) or Geographical projection.

The data delivered will cover the full area of the Local Government area that you have selected, plus a buffer of 1km beyond the border of the Local Government area. The buffer will ensure that you are able to capture all the information you need for your selected area.
